Call for Papers — Solidarity in Diversity: Highlighting Marginal Voices in Academia, Practice and Society

Online and at the University of Melbourne
The African Studies Group (ASG) in partnership with the Melbourne Social Equity Institute (MESI) is hosting the ‘Solidarity in Diversity’ International Conference in July 2021.
The call for papers is now open.
The conference seeks to highlight the voices of, knowledge and experiences of people of African descent, and from other marginalised groups and communities. It is structured around three key themes: solidarity and diversity in academia; policy framing and engagement; and in practice and community intervention.
The conference anchored on the question: Is solidarity in diversity feasible? The deliberations will aim to respond to the following sub-questions:
- What is inclusion? Inclusion to what?
- Who has the power to include?
- What is the criteria for inclusion?
The Solidarity in Diversity Conference will be held virtually from Monday 19 to Friday 23 July 2021. You can access the detailed concept note here for the conference themes, structure and other background information.
A prize of AU$300 will be awarded to the best student paper presented at the
conference. The Call for Papers closes at 11.59 AEST on Friday 30 April 2021.

Conference Program
The hybrid program includes both virtual and in-person events. The masterclass will be held in-person and will also be open to virtual participants. The keynote lecture, debate and academic and practitioner panels will be held virtually.
